Aaron Lelito is a writer and visual artist who is drawn to the patterns and imagery of nature. However, his work often presents an altered view of the sights common to the natural environment, peering beyond what William James famously called “our normal waking consciousness.” Consequently, transformation is one of the reoccurring themes that he engages with. Living in Buffalo, NY, some of the most prominent transformations he observes are natural ones: the changing of seasons, the flowing motion along a stream’s bank, the waves rippling on Lake Erie's shoreline. However, the city itself, with its own ebbs and flows of development and deterioration, is just as much of an influence.
