Causing Diamonds

by James Laswell

I was told to die

in heaven.

So I sipped their poison

looking into God’s eyes

as He grinned the sun

And those with wings laughed the rain

And I rejected his reign

Teeth pressed against teeth

causing diamonds

And the light from his hubris shone through them

And I gifted the world with the colors of my

Pride
