Questions for a Butterfly
by John Jacobson
Where do you find will
To move papery wings
The color of autumn leaves
On your erratic flight over milkweed and
Golden rod?
How do you go on
Mile after mile
Buffeted by wind
And soaked by rain
When you seem
So fragile?
Do you feel a growing urgency
As time passes
That it might run out
Before you reach that place
You long for yet
Can’t name
Or describe?
