Parker Shatkin is an emerging artist with a focus on staged and manipulated photography. Her work is both the creation and documentation of a slight distortion of reality. It is a reality that seems familiar, relatable and comforting, full of objects and incidences we’ve experienced over and over again, but it is wrong, it is weird and uncomfortable and shameless and wrong and wrong and wrong. This is an unreality, similar enough to ours that it is relatable, but just different enough to be uncomfortable. The documentation aspect is crucial – by photographing or taping these unrealities they become real, in physical documentation and in our memory of it.
