Nicole Irene's Artist Statement
Curious and determined my work is a quest through life about life itself; bridging the visual link between microcosm and macrocosm. During my process, energy flows in and through me while creating in a meditative state. The science fictional and fantastical elements of my work provide an escape, an alternate reality, from our present cultural, political and commercial atmosphere – while the whimsical topographical nature of my sculpted paintings serve as a metaphor for navigating my thoughts, life experiences and emotions. My cloying appetite for the optically obese produces arrangements that have profound ruminations on personal, cultural, societal, religious and philosophical levels.
Looking at the sky during balmy summer at twilight or on a frigid winter evening compels me to translate the curiosity and spectacle into my artwork. I become spellbound by color, form, iridescence, and intricacy. Mystery, paradox and magic lead me to experiment. An imagined world of psychedelia and delicate intensity coming to life using my visionary process. The metaphysical is personified by dream-like views of eerie and fantastical landscapes brimming with the potentiality of life punctuated with unexpected combinations of colors and textures.
Moved by the beauty of the nocturnal sky, astronomical phenomena, metaphysics, and cosmology, the workings of the universe within ourselves and around us fascinates me. My artwork addresses the wonders of the enigma that is the cosmos around us. My contemplations of these mysteries manifest as conversions populated with textural vibrations, colorful swells and rhythmic compositions expanded on with original written words of my own.
